More transfusions

Dylan had his 6th platelets transfusion last night, and his 8th blood transfusion this afternoon. A lot of people don’t realize it, but it takes 35 blood donations for Dylan to have 1 platelet transfusion. Blood and platelet transfusions are crucial during chemotherapy, Dylan would not be with us today if it wasn’t for the kind hearted strangers that visit the blood bank. Dylan’s temperature went up to 39.7 this morning and has remained that high, even with panadol. They have taken blood cultures and started him on Gentamicin and Timentin antibiotics. We are still in an isolation room on 7 West. He vomited twice this evening so we dropped his feeds from 50ml to 30ml. He has not eaten and is drinking very little, but even through this he is in good spirits and sat up singing along to music playing on his lap top. The only thing that Dylan is upset about is that they don’t have Foxtel on 7 West like they do on 6 East. We have decided to postpone his party as I have a feeling that he will be kept in over the weekend so the new date is Saturday 13th November. Cain will be having his mini golf party at 12pm so Dylan will go there with Tim while I decorate and wait for guests to arrive at 2pm. We will borrow a golf club for Dylan to use so that there is minimal risk of a sick child using it prior to him. I think Dylan will be kept in hospital until Wednesday (his birthday) as Monday he is due chemo and Tuesday he is due another anesthetic for his bone marrow aspiration, so there will be really no point in discharging him on Sunday. Well we just have to hope that he gets a birthday present from the hospital... being discharged.
